Gypsy & The Cat this is the moniker for Xavier Bacash and Lionel Towers. You’ve heard the name, undoubtedly. Heard their music, very likely. The duo broke onto the scene in 2010 with their triumphant debut LP Gilgamesh, which sold upwards of 250,000 units across the globe, and followed this up with The Late Blue & later their most recent EP, Hearts A Gun. They’ve landed a hat trick of singles in the triple j Hottest 100, played internationally acclaimed festivals like Summersonic (Japan), Big Day Out &Splendour in the Grass; and headlined tours across Australia, France, Germany, UK, and more. All the while, their music has touched on varying territories and influences, constantly morphing but always retaining that signature sound. It’s sleek, neon, fantastical, melodic. It’s dancing with such abandon that you spill your drink and don’t even mind. It’s Gypsy & the Cat – and their latest offering, ‘Inside Your Mind’, is the newest evolution. Mixed by Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, MGMT, Neon Indian, The Flaming Lips) and mastered by Mike Marsh (Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, Depeche Mode), it’s a floor-filling number; the first single off their upcoming third LP. This is more than a return – this is the heralding of an expanded sonic palette so bright and colourful you may need to shut your eyes for a while. But your ears – well, that’s a different story.
